The RAD02 Corsa
When the wailing, throwing of spanners and consumption of bourbon got out of hand during the initial build of the first Verlicchi based TT2 a distraction was required to lift the spirits of the dynamic duo.
Whilst surfing the web for solutions and options Eddy got excited by what would have to be bikeporn at its best. Whilst browsing through the Spanish www.radicalducati.com site he could hardly contain himself! Their Super Pantah F1, their modern interpretation of the Bevel endurance racer and their original RAD01 and RAD02 were out of this world!
These Spanish creations from Pepo were fresher then the lame arse weezy, heavy Ducati Retro range that they are trying for force down our throats. Let’s be honest even the 1198 is a tribute to the iconic 1994 916. Nothing fresh or earth shattering has come out of the Bologna for some time ….. More freshness wafts out of Timmy’s derriere after a night of lager and vindaloo then the Bologna design studio, and before you nancy girls start pointing at the Desmosedici …. it’s a replica folks … not exactly fresh, so just hush up, crank up your Cucciolo go to the cafe and drink your Latte’ !
Talk to Pepo at radical ducati if you want something unique, or a modern interpretation of a classic, Pepo we salute you!
Back to the tale at hand …… so after numerous emails with Pepo from radical ducati a deal was struck, the RAD02 kit would be delivered in parts using the powers of post. With Pepo’s guidance via email the delivery went smoothly, with the exception of one very costly stuff up (note to self — never ever ever get a motorcycle frame couriered with a freight company as the cubic weight cost were in excess of what it would have cost to fly to Madrid, pick up the frame as hand luggage and come back … and I would have had the chance to catch up with Pepo …damnation!!!)
Assembly was child’s play, a few little challenges did arise, the rear linkage arm rubbing against the frame tube (Pepo forgot to mention that little problem ….. bad Pepo, no biscuit for you!) The fuel tank (a recurring curse for the dynamic duo) looked nice, fitted beautifully but was as effective as a 1 legged blind matador!!! The damn thing leaked like a sieve, after many attempts Philty Phil realised that fiberglass surrounding the fuel pump mount was all cracked inside (due to a lack of reinforcement at the end of the fuel tank) Fingers crossed it’s all fixed now and we’ll test it end of June at the next race meet.
Some tasty parts were sourced through forums and fleabay, as parts were fitted tastier, lighter and more exotic parts quickly replaced them. The hoarding and buying obsession of Ed only rivalled by the need to modify by Philthy, in it’s a self a perfect match, but a devasting combination for any bank account.
During its first test there was significant nervousness in the dynamic duo camp that they had build an over inflated, over-rated and over capitalised Ducati Super Sport. Was this a bike that could challenge the Millona NCR, the Pierobon F042 and legendary 2V VeeTwo Squalo? In not too many words ” yes “
The useable power combined with the lightweight makes this a formidable track bike and in the hands of a competent racer (that excludes all members of Team Hustler) it would undoubtedly be competitive.
A few test rides by instructors, racers and Ducati specialists all ended with accolades and surprise at the RAD02.
Stay tuned as there is more development to come.
